History of Downside
Downside has a simple but interesting history. It started as a place where people lived and worked on farms.
Early Post Office
A Post Office was very important for small communities like Downside in the past. It helped people send and receive letters and packages. The Downside Post Office first opened on 15 August 1878. It served the local farmers and residents for many years. However, it eventually closed in 1905. This often happened as towns grew or transport improved.
