About Doyle
Doyle is a charming town in Tennessee. It is known for its friendly community. The town is named after the Doyle family, who were among the first settlers in the area.
A Look Back in Time
Doyle started as a railroad stop in the early 1880s. Back then, it was called Doyle Station. This meant trains would stop there, helping the town grow.
By 1884, a school called Doyle College opened in the town. It taught students for over 40 years. In the late 1880s, a history book said about 150 people lived in Doyle. The town officially became a town in 1905.
Where is Doyle?
Doyle is located in a pretty area of Tennessee. It sits on the Highland Rim, which is a raised flat area of land. The town is at the bottom of a hill called Gum Spring Mountain.
Two rivers meet near Doyle. The Calfkiller River flows into the Caney Fork river just southeast of town. This makes the area very scenic.
Several important roads pass near Doyle. U.S. Route 70S connects Doyle to nearby towns like Sparta and McMinnville. State Route 285 goes towards Spencer and Fall Creek Falls. State Route 111 also runs just east of Doyle.
The town covers an area of about 1.3 square miles (3.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
