Early Life and Beginnings
Darrell Caldwell grew up in South Los Angeles, California. He was raised by his mother. He went to Washington Preparatory High School in a nearby area.
After making a few early music collections, he was noticed by a music producer named DJ Mustard. Mustard helped remix Drakeo's song "Mr. Get Dough". This song became very popular when it came out in 2015. It has been watched millions of times on YouTube. Later that year, Drakeo released his first official music collection, I Am Mr. Mosely.
Music Career Highlights
Drakeo the Ruler continued to release new music. In 2016, he put out I Am Mr. Mosely 2. This collection featured other artists like Mozzy and Skeme. He then released So Cold I Do Em in December of the same year.
In 2017, he created a 16-song collection called Cold Devil. He made this music very quickly, in just 10 days. Music critics praised Cold Devil. Pitchfork magazine called it "the most compelling album" of his career. They noted his "icy and unforgettable" style. Complex magazine also called it "one of the most impressive California rap projects in years." He released music videos for popular songs from this collection, like "Flu Flamming" and "Big Banc Uchies." Other famous rappers, like Lil Yachty, even remixed some of his songs.
In 2020, Drakeo released a special project called Thank You for Using GTL. This music collection was unique because he recorded it using phone calls. His ninth music collection, The Truth Hurts, came out in February 2021. This collection included guest appearances from popular artists like Don Toliver and Drake on the song "Talk to Me".
