Dray Skky's Early Life and Passions

Dray Skky, whose real name is Andrea Y. Hicks, was born in Columbia, South Carolina. Her parents are Mary Williams and Clifton Hicks. When she was just five years old, Dray Skky started modeling. She appeared in commercials and ads for two years.

In elementary school, Dray Skky discovered her love for writing. She enjoyed writing poems and short stories. When she moved to Carrollton, Georgia in third grade, a friend who played the guitar encouraged her. This friend suggested adding music to her poems. That's when Dray Skky realized how much she loved songwriting.

Dray Skky's Music Career

Dray Skky got the nickname "Skky" from people in the music world. They knew her as a talented songwriter and someone who could arrange vocals. She first showed her singing skills on Trick Daddy's album, Back By Thug Demand, in December 2006.

Rumors spread in 2007 that Skky might join Dunk Ryder Records. This would have teamed her up with Trick Daddy and other artists. However, when Dunk Ryder signed with Cash Money/Universal, Skky was not part of the deal. Skky later explained that she was focused on writing songs, not singing, at that time. She was even helping a friend develop their singing talent.

In 2008, Skky was asked to write songs for a pop/rock artist. This artist was signed to A1 Records. Skky recorded her own voice on the demo songs. The CEO of the label, James Goosby, was very impressed by her singing.

In March 2009, Goosby heard more of Skky's songs. He convinced her to sign a recording contract. This was to release a song called "Catch 22." The song featured Brisco (rapper) and was produced by GoldRush. "Catch 22" was released in May 2009. It quickly became popular, leading to a music video.

Skky filmed the music video for "Catch 22" in May 2009. It featured Brisco, Tiffany from BET's College Hill South Beach, and K.O., Skky's official dance team.

Later, Dray Skky and her manager started their own company in 2010. It was called Skky Music LLC. This company helped manage and develop new artists. They worked with several aspiring artists, helping them grow their music careers.

In 2011, two of Skky Music LLC's artists were offered recording contracts. However, the record label closed down unexpectedly. This happened because the label's CEO passed away. After this loss and the birth of her first son, Skky decided to take a break from music.

In 2016, Dray Skky opened Skky Music Studios in Lexington, South Carolina. She closed the studio in 2018. She mentioned in an interview that this was due to several reasons, including a personal health challenge.

Even though Dray Skky has been quiet on social media since 2018, she continues to work as a songwriter. She has been seen working in studios in Miami and Atlanta. In 2022, a young singer named Jada Denise mentioned Skky's work on her website. This shows Skky is still creating music behind the scenes.

Dray Skky's Personal Life

Dray Skky married her longtime boyfriend, Harry Damon, in June 2015. They have four sons together: Skyler, Harrison, Andre, and Aiden.
