Dree Louise Crisman Hemingway, born on December 4, 1987, is an American fashion model and actress. She became well-known for her main role in the movie Starlet (2012), directed by Sean Baker. Since then, she has been recognized for her work in major fashion campaigns and many independent films.
Early Life and Education
Dree Louise Crisman Hemingway was born in Sun Valley, Idaho. Her mother is the actress Mariel Hemingway, and her aunt was the model and actress Margaux Hemingway. Her great-grandfather on her mother's side was the famous author Ernest Hemingway. Dree also has a younger sister named Langley Fox.
She grew up in Ketchum, Idaho and went to Ernest Hemingway Elementary School. Later, she moved to California and lived in Westlake Village. She attended Oaks Christian High School for about two and a half years. She then decided to leave school to start her career as a model. In 2003, she was introduced to society as a debutante at the Bal des débutantes event in Paris, France.
Modeling Career
In March 2009, Dree Hemingway made her first appearance on the fashion runway. She walked in the fall/winter show for Givenchy in Paris. In June 2009, she was part of the Calvin Klein resort show in New York. Later that year, in September 2009, she opened the Topshop spring/summer 2010 show in London.
In January 2010, she became the new face for the Gianfranco Ferré advertising campaign. Later that year, she was featured in a new ad campaign for the Salvatore Ferragamo perfume called Attimo. The famous musician and photographer Bryan Adams took her picture for the spring 2011 issue of Zoo Magazine.
Hemingway has also walked for other well-known designers and brands. These include Shiatzy Chen, House of Holland, Karl Lagerfeld, Giles, Chanel, and Rue du Mail. She has also appeared in advertising campaigns for Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino, H&M, Chanel, and Paco Rabanne. Her photos have been on the covers and inside pages of magazines like Harper's Bazaar, i-D, V, W, Numéro, and many different international versions of Vogue.
Acting Career
Dree Hemingway decided to follow in the footsteps of her mother and aunt by starting an acting career. She has mostly appeared in independent films. Her first main role was in the independent movie Starlet (2012), directed by Sean Baker. For this film, she and the other actors received the Robert Altman Award at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards.
She has also had supporting roles in movies like Listen Up Philip (2014) and While We're Young (2014). She played leading roles in The People Garden and Live Cargo. Live Cargo was shown for the first time at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.
In 2017, Hemingway appeared in Michelle Morgan's film It Happened in L.A., which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. She also acted in Russell Harbaugh's movie Love After Love, which was first shown at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.
