The Drifter was a popular chocolate bar known for its unique wafer and caramel layers. It was first created by a company called Rowntree's in 1980. Later, Nestlé took over its production after buying Rowntree's in 1988.
What Was the Drifter Bar?
The Drifter chocolate bar had a crunchy wafer base. On top of the wafer, there was a yummy layer of soft caramel. The whole bar was then covered in smooth milk chocolate. It was designed to be a chewy and satisfying treat.
A Brief History of Drifter
When the Drifter bar was popular, about 90 million bars were made every year! That's a lot of chocolate bars. One of its famous advertising slogans was, "the chewy chocolate bar that you really have to get your teeth into." This slogan highlighted how chewy and satisfying the bar was.
In 2007, Nestlé decided to stop making the Drifter bar. But many fans missed it, so they brought it back in May 2008. This was similar to how the Cadbury's Wispa bar also made a comeback. However, in October 2018, Nestlé stopped making the Drifter bar again. This time, it was because not enough people were buying it. The bars were made at the Nestlé Fawdon factory in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.
During the 1990s, the Drifter bar had some fun TV advertisements. These ads often showed people speaking in slang or special jargon. The ads always ended with the catchy phrase, "do you catch my drift?". This phrase played on the name of the chocolate bar.
Drifter McFlurry Treat
In June 2011, the fast-food chain McDonald's introduced a special Drifter McFlurry. A McFlurry is a popular ice cream dessert. This Drifter version was only available for a short time, from June 15 to July 26, 2011. It allowed fans to enjoy the Drifter flavor in a new, cool way.
