Danyel Robinson (born September 14, 1971), known by his stage name Dru Down, is an American rapper and actor. He is from Oakland, California. Dru Down is part of a group of rappers called The Regime. Other members include Yukmouth, Tech N9ne, and Messy Marv.

Early Life of Dru Down

Danyel Robinson grew up in East Oakland, California. His grandmother and step-father raised him. His mother passed away when he was three years old. When he was a teenager, he learned something special. His grandmother told him that his biological father was the famous bassist and singer Bootsy Collins.

Dru Down's Music Career

Releasing Albums and Acting (1996–2001)

Dru Down's third album, Can You Feel Me, came out in 1996. The song "Can You Feel Me" from the album became a small hit. This album was special because it was his first time working with his father, Bootsy Collins. Later, Dru Down also appeared on Bootsy Collins' album, Fresh Outta 'P' University.

One song on the album, "Mista Busta," talked about a disagreement Dru Down had with another rapper from the Bay Area, Too Short. The album Can You Feel Me did well, reaching number 54 on the Billboard 200 chart. Music critics also liked it a lot.

In 1996, Dru Down also started his acting career. He played a character named Kayo in the movie Original Gangstas. He also appeared on a song by the famous rapper 2Pac. The song was called "All About You" and was on 2Pac's album All Eyez on Me. Dru Down performed the intro for the song.

In 2001, Dru Down signed with Ruthless Records. However, he did not release any albums with them. Instead, his next two albums came out through American Recordings and C-Note Records.
