Drumcondra is a small, beautiful suburb in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It sits right next to Corio Bay, giving residents amazing water views. It's known for being a wealthy area with some of the most valuable homes in Geelong.

Drumcondra is actually the smallest suburb in Geelong. It's also one of the tiniest suburbs in all of Victoria! In 2016, about 560 people lived there. The suburb got its name from another place called Drumcondra, which is a suburb in Dublin, Ireland.

Drumcondra has clear boundaries that make it easy to find on a map. These include the Melbourne Road, Glenleith Avenue, The Esplanade, and Bell Parade. It's shaped like a "block" of land.

The main road in Drumcondra is Beach Parade. The suburb only has nine streets in total. There are around 200 houses in this small area. Many of these homes are considered very special and valuable.

A Look at Its History

The first house in Drumcondra was built in April 1912. It was located at 5 Glenleith Avenue. More houses were built on that street during the same year. This means that 2012 marked the 100th anniversary of these first homes.

Famous Buildings

One of the most famous buildings in Drumcondra is a large house called Lunan House. It was built in 1849 for a wool merchant named James Strahan. The house was made from a special stone called Barrabool sandstone.

For some time, Lunan House was used as a college for teachers. Later, it was changed back into a private home. This important building is now listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. This means it's protected because of its historical value.
