Dry Falls, also known as Upper Cullasaja Falls, is a beautiful 65-foot (20.1 m) waterfall. It is located in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina. You can find it northwest of Highlands, North Carolina.

What Makes Dry Falls Special?
Dry Falls is unique because you can walk behind the falling water! The water flows over an overhanging rock. This creates a natural shelter behind the falls. When the water isn't too heavy, you can stay mostly dry. That's how it got its name, Dry Falls. If there's a lot of rain, you might get a little wet, though!
How Does the Water Flow?
The water at Dry Falls comes from the Cullasaja River. This river has several waterfalls along an 8.7-mile (14 km) stretch. Dry Falls is one of these amazing natural features. The river eventually leads to another waterfall called Cullasaja Falls.

Dry Falls has been known by this name for a long time. However, it has also had other names in the past. Some people used to call it High Falls. Other names included Pitcher Falls and Cullasaja Falls. No matter the name, it has always been a special place.
Visiting Dry Falls: Your Adventure Awaits!
Dry Falls is easy to visit. It is right off U.S. Highway 64. This is about 3.1 miles (5.0 km) north of Highlands, North Carolina. There is a parking area where you can leave your car. From there, a short path with stairs leads you right to the falls.
Recent Improvements for Visitors
Between 2008 and 2009, the Forest Service made some great changes. They improved and expanded the parking area. New bathroom facilities were also added for visitors. A new walkway and viewing area were built near the parking lot. These updates make visiting Dry Falls even better for everyone!
