The Dry River is a river about 9 miles (14.5 km) long. It flows through the beautiful White Mountains in New Hampshire, United States. It's a smaller river that flows into the Saco River. The Saco River then travels all the way to the Atlantic Ocean in Maine. Almost the whole Dry River is inside a special protected area. This area is called the Presidential Range-Dry River Wilderness and is part of the White Mountain National Forest.

The Dry River starts high up in a place called Oakes Gulf. This gulf is like a big, bowl-shaped valley carved by glaciers. It's located on the southern side of Mount Washington. Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in the northeastern United States. The river flows southwest through a forest valley. This valley is between the southern part of the Presidential Range to its west and the lower Montalban Ridge to its east. You can find Mount Isolation on the Montalban Ridge. A hiking path called the Dry River Trail follows the river through the wilderness area. The river finally ends in Crawford Notch State Park, where it joins the Saco River.

What is the Presidential Range-Dry River Wilderness?

The Dry River is the main feature of the Presidential Range-Dry River Wilderness. This special area was created in 1975 by the U.S. Congress. It is protected as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. This wilderness area covers about 27,605 acres (11,171 hectares). The U.S. Forest Service helps manage and protect this natural space.
