Dušan Jovanović (born October 1, 1939 – died January 1, 2021) was a famous Slovene theatre director, playwright (someone who writes plays), and essayist (someone who writes essays). He was well-known for his unique and experimental plays. These plays often used grotesque satirical theatre, which means they were funny but also a bit strange and made fun of serious topics.
From 2005, he was also the president of the Prešeren Foundation. This foundation gives out important awards for art in Slovenia.

About Dušan Jovanović
Early Life and Education
Dušan Jovanović was born in Belgrade in 1939. This was just before World War II started. After the war, he moved to Ljubljana with his father.
He studied at the University of Ljubljana. There, he learned English and French. He also studied stage direction at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. This means he learned how to direct plays.
His Theatre Career
In the late 1960s and 1970s, Dušan Jovanović worked with many experimental theatre groups. These groups tried new and different ways of putting on plays. From 1978 to 1985, he was the artistic director at the Mladinsko Theatre. This means he was in charge of the creative side of the theatre.
Starting in 1989, he also taught at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. He helped new students learn about theatre. Besides plays, he also wrote many scripts for movies and TV shows.
Writing and Awards
In the late 1990s, Dušan Jovanović became a popular columnist (someone who writes articles for newspapers or magazines) and essayist. His writing was very well-liked.
In 2008, he won the Rožanc Award. This award was for his collection of essays called Svet je drama. This title means "The World is a Drama."
