Dudley Devere Manlove (born June 11, 1914 – died April 17, 1996) was an American radio announcer and an actor. He was known for his unique voice on the radio. He also appeared in movies and on television shows.
Early Life
Dudley Manlove was born in California. When he was just a young boy, he started performing. In 1921, at age six, he was part of a group of young performers. These performers were supported by a newspaper called the Oakland Tribune. He even got a contract with a movie company that same year. He already had more than a year of stage experience by then.
A Voice on the Radio
Dudley Manlove worked at radio stations in California. He was an actor on shows like Eight o'Clock Players. He also hosted a morning music program called The Musical Clock. His voice was very special. It became his trademark as a radio announcer and actor. He was also the announcer for the detective radio show Candy Matson, YUkon 2-8209.
Acting on Screen
Manlove is famous for his roles in science fiction B movies. These are movies made with a smaller budget. Two of his well-known films are The Creation of the Humanoids and Plan 9 from Outer Space. In Plan 9, he played a character named Eros. Some critics thought his acting in Plan 9 was very dramatic.
He also appeared as a guest star on popular television series. These included the crime drama Dragnet. He also appeared in the mystery show Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
His Later Years
Dudley Manlove was married twice. He married Ora in 1940, and they later divorced in 1945. In 1947, he married a singer named Patricia Prichard. They also divorced in 1954.
Dudley Manlove passed away on April 17, 1996. He was 81 years old when he died in San Bernardino, California.
