Duey is a special kind of neighborhood called a barrio. It is located in the town of Yauco, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,108 people lived in Duey.
Duey's History: From Spain to the U.S.
Long ago, Puerto Rico, including Duey, was part of Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States. In 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,264 people lived in Duey barrio at that time.
