The Dumont River (called rivière Dumont in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Nicolet River, which then joins the mighty St. Lawrence River. The entire Dumont River is located within the town of Chesterville. This area is part of the Arthabaska Regional County Municipality in the Centre-du-Québec region.

Where Does the Dumont River Flow?

The Dumont River starts in a hilly area. This spot is about 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) north of the village of Chesterville. It begins between two mountains. One mountain is about 300 metres (980 ft) tall to the west. The other is about 482 metres (1,581 ft) tall to the east.

The Dumont River flows for about 4.1 kilometres (2.5 mi). Here's how it travels:

  • First, it goes about 3.1 kilometres (1.9 mi) west, then south. It passes north of the village of Chesterville. It flows under Chemin Craig Nord, a road in the village.
  • Then, it travels about 1.0 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the southwest. It goes under a railway track.
  • Finally, the Dumont River empties into the northeast side of the Nicolet River. This meeting point is about 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) southwest of the center of Chesterville village.
