Duncan Creek (Gasconade River tributary) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Duncan Creek is a small stream in the U.S. state of Missouri. It flows through parts of Maries, Phelps, and Pulaski counties. This creek is an important part of the local water system because it flows into the Gasconade River, which is a much larger river in the Ozarks region.

Where Duncan Creek Begins and Ends

Duncan Creek starts in Maries County. This is its "source" or "headwaters." It begins about 2.5 miles northeast of a town called Dixon. The water here is quite high up, around 1,025 feet above sea level.

From its starting point, the creek flows southeast. It briefly enters the northeast part of Pulaski County before moving into Phelps County.

The journey of Duncan Creek ends when it joins the Gasconade River. This meeting point, called a "confluence," is about 4.5 miles north of Jerome. At this spot, the creek is much lower, around 650 feet above sea level. This means the water flows downhill from its source to the Gasconade River.

Other Streams Joining Duncan Creek

Along its path, Duncan Creek is joined by smaller streams. One of these is Mungy Branch, which flows into Duncan Creek about half a mile before Duncan Creek meets the Gasconade River.
