Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones (born on May 30, 1971) is a talented British film director, producer, and writer. He is known for directing popular movies like Moon (2009), Source Code (2011), Warcraft (2016), and Mute (2018). For his work on Moon, he won a special award called the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. Duncan is the son of the famous English singer-songwriter David Bowie and model/actress Angie Bowie.

Early Years and Family Life
Duncan was born in Bromley, London, on May 30, 1971. His parents were the legendary musician David Bowie and his first wife, Angela "Angie" Bowie. Duncan's birth even inspired his father to write the song "Kooks"!
He grew up in different places like London, Berlin, and Switzerland. His father and a Scottish nanny, Marion Skene, mostly raised him. When his parents divorced, his father got custody of him. For a while, Duncan was known as "Zowie Bowie." When he was 12, he decided he wanted to be called "Joey," and later "Joe." He went back to his birth name, Duncan, around age 18.
Duncan has half-siblings from his parents' other relationships. He has a half-sister, Alexandria "Lexi" Jones, from his father and Iman. He also has a half-sister, Stacia, from his mother.
When he was a kid, Duncan dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler! His father even said he had "natural strength." Later, he studied philosophy in college. He then went to the London Film School to learn about making movies, graduating in 2001.
Becoming a Director
Duncan got an early look at filmmaking when he visited the set of Labyrinth. His father was starring in that movie. After that, Duncan even worked for the Jim Henson Creature Shop, which creates amazing puppets and creatures for films.
He also worked as a cameraman for some of his father's concerts and parties. Before directing his own films, he directed a campaign for the fashion brand French Connection in 2006.

Moon: A Space Adventure
His first major film was Moon, released in 2009. This movie is about an astronaut who is alone on the Moon. It was a big success and won many awards. Duncan won the Douglas Hickox Award for Best British Director for his debut film. He also received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
Source Code: A Time-Bending Thriller
In 2011, Duncan directed Source Code. This science-fiction thriller is about a soldier who relives the same eight minutes over and over again. He tries to find a bomber on a train. It's a very exciting and suspenseful movie.
Warcraft: From Game to Big Screen
Duncan then directed Warcraft, which came out in 2016. This movie is based on the incredibly popular video game series. It brought the fantasy world of Orcs and humans to the big screen.
Mute: A Futuristic Mystery
His next film was Mute, released in 2018. This movie is also science fiction and takes place in Berlin in the future. It follows a bartender who cannot speak as he searches for his missing girlfriend. Duncan described it as a "spiritual sequel" to Moon.
Future Projects
Duncan has announced that his next project will be another science fiction film. It will be based on the comic book character Rogue Trooper from 2000 AD Comics. Fans are excited to see what he creates next!
Life Outside of Movies
Duncan Jones married photographer Rodene Ronquillo in 2012. They have two children together. Their son is named Stenton David Jones, and their daughter is named Zowie, after Duncan's own childhood nickname. The couple has also worked to raise awareness for important health issues.
