History of Dunmor
A post office opened in Dunmor in 1884. This helped people send and receive mail. The name "Dunmor" might have come from a few places. One idea is that it was named after Lord Dunmore. He was an important politician from colonial times. Another idea is that the name came from a local family called Dunn.

Dunmor is in the southern part of Muhlenberg County. A small part of it also reaches into Logan County. A main road, U.S. Route 431, goes right through Dunmor. If you go north on this road for about 18 miles, you will reach Central City. If you go south the same distance, you will get to Russellville.
