Dunnstown is in the eastern part of Clinton County. It sits on the north side of the West Branch Susquehanna River. This river is a major waterway in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Route 150 (also known as Woodward Avenue) crosses the river from Dunnstown. It connects the community to Lock Haven. Lock Haven is the main city and county seat of Clinton County. This means it's where the county government offices are located.
Route 150 also goes east about 6 miles (10 km) to the town of Avis. Dunnstown shares its eastern border with Dunnstable Township. Another road, Pennsylvania Route 664, goes north from Dunnstown for about 16 miles (26 km) to Haneyville.
