Dutch Island is a small community in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. It is not a city, but a special kind of area called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a place the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

Geography of Dutch Island

Dutch Island is located southeast of the city of Savannah. It is an actual island, surrounded by several water channels. These include the Herb River to the northwest and the Wilmington River to the northeast. The Skidaway River is to the southeast, and Grimball Creek is to the southwest.

The Wilmington and Skidaway rivers are part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. This is a long path of connected rivers and canals along the Atlantic coast. Dutch Island is connected by road to another nearby community called Isle of Hope. It is about 14 miles (23 km) by road to downtown Savannah.
