Dwight Drummond is a well-known Canadian television journalist. He was born on September 22, 1968. Today, he is the host of CBC News Toronto. Before this, he hosted Canada Tonight on CBC News Network. He also used to be the main news anchor for CBC Toronto News with Dwight Drummond at CBLT, which is CBC Television's station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Dwight Drummond's Career Journey
Dwight Drummond moved to Canada in 1976. He grew up in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto. He went to high school at Runnymede Collegiate Institute. Later, he studied broadcasting at Ryerson University, which is now called Toronto Metropolitan University.
Starting in Television
Dwight began his career at Citytv in 1989. He started as a security guard for a show called Electric Circus. He learned a lot about how TV shows are made. He worked in many different roles behind the scenes. He was a teleprompter operator, a floor director, and even a studio cameraman. He also worked as a videographer for CityNews. During this time, he even appeared as a cameraman in the music video for "Let Your Backbone Slide" by Maestro Fresh-Wes.
Becoming a News Anchor
Dwight became known as Citytv's crime specialist. This meant he reported on crime stories. In 1995, he had a difficult experience with police. This event made him want to be an on-air journalist even more. He wanted to help tell important stories and make sure people understood what was happening in their communities.
He became an anchor for CityNews at Noon. Later, he also anchored CityNews at Five. In 2010, there were some changes at Citytv, and Dwight left the station.
Moving to CBC News
On October 12, 2010, Dwight joined Anne-Marie Mediwake as a co-anchor for the evening news on CBC News: Toronto. When Anne-Marie left in 2016, Dwight became the main anchor for the show, which was renamed CBC Toronto News with Dwight Drummond. He continued in this role until October 2022. After that, he moved to CBC News Network to host Canada Tonight.
Awards and Recognition
Dwight Drummond has received several awards for his work in journalism.
Canadian Screen Awards
In May 2021, Dwight won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Local News Anchor. This award recognized his excellent work as a news anchor in Toronto. He had also been nominated for this same award in 2016, 2018, and 2019.
Honorary Degree
In June 2023, Toronto Metropolitan University gave Dwight Drummond an honorary Doctor of Law degree. This is a special award that recognizes his achievements and contributions, even though he didn't study law.
