Dyer is a city located in Gibson County, Tennessee, United States. In 2020, about 2,308 people lived there. The city was first known as Dyer Station. Railroad workers gave it this name a long time ago when trains were first becoming popular.

Dyer is found in the state of Tennessee. Its exact location is 36°4′9″N 88°59′30″W / 36.06917°N 88.99167°W. The city covers a total area of about 7.4 square kilometers (2.86 square miles). All of this area is land.

The number of people living in Dyer has changed over the years. In 1880, there were 401 residents. By 1900, the population had grown to 1,204. The population has generally stayed between 1,900 and 2,500 people since the 1950s.

After eighth grade, most high school students from Dyer go to Gibson County High School. This school is located just south of Dyer. Before 1980, students attended Dyer High School in their own community.

Tornado of 2006
On April 2, 2006, a strong tornado hit Dyer directly. This tornado caused a lot of damage to the town. Sadly, 15 people lost their lives in the wider area affected by the storm. Many homes were destroyed in Dyer and other parts of Gibson County.
