Dylan's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Dylan Olsen was chosen by the Medicine Hat Tigers in a special draft for young players in 2006. However, he decided to play for the Camrose Kodiaks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) instead. This choice helped him keep his chance to play college hockey later on.
In his first full season with the Kodiaks (2007–08), Dylan played 49 games. He scored 8 goals and helped with 16 assists, totaling 24 points. His team had the best record in the league that year. They went on to win the 2008 AJHL championship. The Kodiaks then won the Doyle Cup, which made them champions of Western Canada. They almost won the 2008 Royal Bank Cup, but lost in the final game.
Dylan played even better in the 2008–09 season. He scored 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 53 games.
Playing College Hockey
After junior hockey, Dylan went to the University of Minnesota Duluth for the 2009–10 season. He played 36 games for the Bulldogs. He scored 1 goal and had 10 assists, adding up to 11 points.
Becoming a Professional Player
On December 31, 2010, Dylan signed his first professional contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He signed this deal while playing for Team Canada at the 2011 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. After the tournament, he joined the Rockford IceHogs, which is the Blackhawks' top minor league team.
Dylan played his first NHL playoff game on April 17, 2012.
During the 2013–14 season, Dylan was traded from the Blackhawks to the Florida Panthers. This happened on November 14, 2013. He scored his very first NHL goal for the Panthers on December 5, 2013, against the Winnipeg Jets.
After the 2015–16 season, Dylan became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team. He later joined the Adirondack Thunder in the ECHL in 2017.
In 2018, Dylan decided to play hockey overseas. He signed a one-year contract with the Nottingham Panthers in England. He also played for HK Nitra in Slovakia. In 2020, he returned to North America to play in the ECHL again.
Dylan's Family Life
Dylan's father, Darryl Olsen, was also a professional hockey player. Darryl played one game for the Calgary Flames in the 1991–92 NHL season. He spent several years playing in minor leagues in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is where Dylan was born.
