E-Commerce Place (French: Cité du commerce électronique) (CCE) is a set of two office towers in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. You can find it on René-Lévesque Boulevard West in Downtown Montreal.
This building got its name because it was part of a special plan. The government wanted to help create jobs in new technology. It offered special help to companies that focused on e-commerce. E-commerce means buying and selling things online.
Building History
The idea for E-Commerce Place started in the early 2000s. The government wanted to boost jobs in technology. They hoped to encourage companies to work with computers and the internet.
The plan was to create a special area for these businesses. Companies that moved into E-Commerce Place could get financial help. This help was meant to encourage them to grow and hire more people.
However, some people thought the plan focused too much on building new offices. They felt it didn't create enough new jobs. Instead, it sometimes just moved existing jobs to new locations. The special government help for these buildings ended in 2003. This meant that plans for more towers at E-Commerce Place were stopped.
Building Design
E-Commerce Place has two main towers. They are connected by a shared glass area.
First Tower
The first tower is at 1350 René-Lévesque Boulevard West. It has 27 floors. This tower was finished in early 2003. Its main tenant, or company using the space, is CGI Group. CGI Group is a big company that helps others with computer and internet technology.
Second Tower
The second tower is at 1360 René Lévesque. It has 17 floors. This tower was completed in the spring of 2004. One of the companies in this tower is Laurentian Bank of Canada.
Common Area
