The reservation gets its name from the "Eagle Rock." This is a bare rock that looks out from the mountain. It also marks the border between Montclair and West Orange. The famous Lenape Trail runs through the reservation. You can find many streams flowing here. The forests are home to lots of wildlife, like deer and sometimes even bears.

Inside the reservation, there's also a building called Highlawn Pavilion. It's a restaurant and a place for special events. Long ago, this building was a "casino," which used to mean a country house or a place for refreshments.

Remembering September 11th

After the sad events of September 11, 2001, people from nearby towns came to this spot. They wanted to see the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center in Manhattan. Because of this, a special memorial was built here.

The 9/11 Memorial Dedication

On October 20, 2002, a section of the reservation was officially dedicated. This spot has a clear view of the Manhattan skyline. James W. Treffinger, who was the Essex County Executive, along with many local people, helped dedicate the memorial. It honors everyone who lost their lives during the attacks.

What the Memorial Looks Like

The names of all the people who died at the World Trade Center are carved into a marble memorial. This makes sure they are always remembered. It's a peaceful place to reflect and remember.
