Ealing is a small rural area in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It sits right by the Rangitata River. Even though it's a small place, Ealing has a community hall, a church, and a local fire unit.
Ealing started as a railway village in the 1870s. This was when workers were building a bridge for the Main South Line railway over the Rangitata River. Over time, the number of people living there changed. In the 1930s, the local school closed down. Students from Ealing and nearby areas like Lynnford and Maronan then went to schools in Hinds and Carew. The old school building in Ealing is now used as the church.
People often call the whole area the "Ealing district" rather than just the small village. The community likes to get together for fun events. Each year, they have a Guy Fawkes Night fireworks show and a Christmas party at the Ealing District Hall. These events help everyone feel connected.
