Earle Island is a small island located in Antarctica. It's quite special because it's mostly free of ice, which is unusual for islands in this very cold part of the world. The island is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) southwest of Darwin Island. It sits at the southwestern edge of a group of islands known as the Danger Islands.
Earle Island got its name from Augustus Earle. He was an artist who traveled on a famous ship called HMS Beagle. This ship is well-known because Charles Darwin also sailed on it. The island was named after hydrographic work, which is like mapping the ocean floor and coastlines, was done in the area by another ship, HMS Endurance, in 1977–78.
