Earling is a small community located in Logan County, West Virginia, in the United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means the U.S. Census Bureau defines it for gathering population data. Earling was first recognized as a CDP before the 2020 United States Census.

What's in a Name?
Earling wasn't always called Earling! This community had different names in the past. It was once known as "Ferndale" and also "Manbar." The name was officially changed to Earling in 1906. The current name, Earling, was chosen to honor an early settler who helped establish the area.

Earling is found in the southern part of Logan County, West Virginia. It sits on the east side of the Guyandotte River. This river is an important natural feature of the area.
Roads and Rivers
A major road, West Virginia Route 10, used to go right through the middle of Earling. Now, this highway is a larger, four-lane road that goes around the town. It passes on the west side of the Guyandotte River. The closest way to get to Earling from the highway is about half a mile to the northwest, using Rich Creek Road. The town of Man is located about 2.75 miles (4.43 km) to the southeast of Earling.
Land and Water
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Earling CDP covers a total area of about 0.48 square kilometers (0.19 square miles). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.04 square kilometers (0.015 square miles), is water. This water area is made up of the Guyandotte River itself. The Guyandotte River flows north and eventually joins the Ohio River near Huntington, West Virginia.
