The East Beach Café is a special cafe located right by the sea in Littlehampton, West Sussex, England. It's not just any cafe; it's famous for its amazing and unusual building design.
The cafe is owned by Jane Wood and Sophie Murray. They asked a well-known designer named Thomas Heatherwick to create a truly unique building. They wanted it to be a landmark for the seaside town of Littlehampton.

A Unique Design
The East Beach Cafe was designed by the award-winning designer Thomas Heatherwick. This was actually his very first building design! He wanted the cafe to have a shape that was different from anything else.
Why the Shape is Special
The cafe's unusual shape helps protect the views from a nearby conservation area. At the same time, it makes sure customers inside get fantastic views of the sea. It's a clever way to blend in and stand out at the same time.
Building Details
The cafe building is about 40 metres (130 ft) (131 feet) long. It is 7 metres (23 ft) (23 feet) wide and 5 metres (16 ft) (16 feet) high. The side of the building that faces away from the sea has no windows.
The cafe was built right in Littlehampton. Local companies helped construct it. Littlehampton Welding ltd did the steelwork, and Langridge Developments handled the site work.
Awards and Recognition
The East Beach Cafe has won several important awards for its design. These awards show how special and well-loved the building is.
Design Awards
In 2008, the building won a regional prize from the RIBA. The judges thought it was "strange and captivating" and "weird but lovable." This means they found its unique look very appealing.
In 2009, the cafe won the Exterior Space category at the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards. This award celebrates the best-designed restaurants and bars.
Coastal Cafe of the Year
The East Beach Cafe was also named "Coastal Cafe of the Year" in 2011. This award came from Coast Awards, run by the National Magazine Company. It shows that people love visiting this cafe by the sea.
