A Look at East Point's History
East Point Office Park is built on land that was "reclaimed" from Dublin Bay and the River Tolka estuary. This means engineers added soil and rock to create new land from the water. The first part of the park opened for business around 1996.
Did you know this spot was first planned for a new airport? It was going to be like London City Airport, right in the city! But that idea didn't work out. So, a company called Earlsfort Centre Developments bought the land instead.
They hired special designers to plan the park. Scott Tallon Walker designed the buildings. Charles Funke designed the green spaces and landscaping.
Later, a new bridge and road were built to help people get to the park easily. This was needed because of the Dublin Port Tunnel nearby.
The first part of East Point was very successful. So, more land was developed. The park grew to about 40 acres. It now has around 37 buildings, mostly offices. This also added another entrance, making it even easier to get to the park.
Big Companies at East Point
Many well-known companies have their offices at East Point Office Park. Some of these include Cisco, Google, and Oracle.
Other companies like Enterprise Ireland, Deutsche Bank, and Virgin Media Ireland also have offices here. Enterprise Ireland even moved its main office to East Point. They brought all their Dublin teams together in one big building.
Getting Around East Point
East Point is special because it's Dublin's only big office park right in the city center. It's less than 2 kilometers from important places. These include the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and the Convention Centre Dublin. The famous 3Arena music venue is also very close by.
There isn't a public bus or train stop right inside the park. But don't worry! East Point has its own special shuttle bus service. These buses are free for everyone working there. They take people to Clontarf Road railway station and to the Point Village stop on the Luas red line tram. This makes it easy for thousands of employees to get to work.
