History of Eastabuchie
The name Eastabuchie has a special meaning. It comes from the native Choctaw language. This word was used to describe the Leaf River, which flows nearby.
Eastabuchie was once a small town with its own government. It was officially made a town on February 19, 1890. However, at some point later, it stopped being an official town. Today, it is a community located along the Norfolk Southern Railway line.
The community was first counted as a census-designated place in the 2020 Census. At that time, it had a population of 187 people. Eastabuchie is also home to the studios of television station WDAM. This station broadcasts news and shows for the area.
In 1912, a sad train accident happened in Eastabuchie. Several people, including some who had fought in the Civil War, lost their lives in this event.
