Ebo Creek: A Missouri Stream

Ebo Creek is found in the beautiful landscapes of Washington County, Missouri. It's an important part of the local water system, flowing through different areas before joining a bigger stream.

Where Ebo Creek Begins and Ends

Every stream has a starting point, called its headwaters. For Ebo Creek, its headwaters are about nine miles northwest of a town called Potosi, Missouri. Here, the land is quite high, around 1,050 feet (320 meters) above sea level.

From its start, the stream first flows south, then turns east. It passes right under Missouri Route 185, which is a road, just south of a small community named Ebo, Missouri. The creek then continues flowing towards the east-northeast.

Ebo Creek eventually meets and joins with the Fourche a Renault stream. This meeting point is called the confluence. It happens about one mile south of another community called Aptus, Missouri. At this spot, the elevation is much lower, around 709 feet (216 meters) above sea level.

You can find the exact starting point of Ebo Creek using these coordinates: 38°01′58″N 90°55′32″W / 38.03278°N 90.92556°W / 38.03278; -90.92556. The point where it joins Fourche a Renault is at 38°01′41″N 90°51′20″W / 38.02806°N 90.85556°W / 38.02806; -90.85556.

The Mystery of the Name "Ebo"

It's a bit of a puzzle why this stream was named "Ebo." No one knows for sure how the name came to be! However, we do know that French explorers were in this area a long time ago, in the early 1700s. They were looking for places to mine valuable minerals. There was even a mine in the area called the Ebo Lead Mines. It's possible the stream got its name from these early mining activities or the people involved.
