Eboni Usoro-Brown (born Eboni Beckford-Chambers on 4 February 1988) is a former English netball player. She was a strong defender for the England team and Team Bath. Eboni was a key part of the England team that won a historic gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Early Life and Education
Eboni Usoro-Brown attended Gordon's School in Surrey, England. She was a student there from 2001 to 2004. After school, she went on to study Law. She earned her first degree from the University of Bristol in 2009. She continued her studies at the same university, completing a master's degree in Law in 2010. Later, she finished her legal training at the University of the West of England.
Netball Club Career
Eboni played for several netball clubs during her career. She was known for her strong defensive skills.
Playing for Team Bath
Eboni first joined Team Bath in 2006. She was part of the team that won the Super League championship four times. These wins happened in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010.
Time with West Coast Fever
In 2011, Eboni moved to Australia to play for West Coast Fever. This club is based in Perth. She played under the famous coach Norma Plummer. Eboni was recognized as Fever’s Most Valuable Player in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Playing for Adelaide Thunderbirds
After her time with West Coast Fever, Eboni joined the Adelaide Thunderbirds. She played for this team during the 2015 season.
Return to Team Bath
Eboni returned to Team Bath before the 2016 season. She became the team captain and led them for six seasons. Her captaincy ended in 2021. She took a break during the 2020 season when she was pregnant. However, she returned to play for the 2021 season.
Final Season with Queensland Firebirds
For the 2022 season, Eboni joined the Queensland Firebirds. She made this move to help her chances of being selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games squad. After the Commonwealth Games, she announced her retirement from netball.
International Netball Career
Eboni Usoro-Brown had a long and successful international career. She played many important matches for England.
Early International Matches
Eboni made her first international appearance for England in 2008. She was twenty years old when she played against the Malawi team.
She was part of the English team that hosted the 2009 World Netball Series. This was her first major championship since her debut. Eboni also played a key role at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. England won a bronze medal in the team event there. She also helped England win a silver medal in the 2010 World Netball Series. Eboni was also on the English team for the 2011 World Netball Championships. England earned a bronze medal in the team event at that competition.
Commonwealth Games and World Championships
Eboni represented England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. This was her second time competing at the Commonwealth Games. The netball team finished fourth and did not win a medal. At the 2015 World Netball Championships, she was very important to England's defense. Her strong play helped England finish in third place.
She competed for England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This was her third time at the Commonwealth Games. At the Gold Coast Games, her team achieved a stunning victory. They beat the defending champions, Australia, 52–51. This thrilling win secured a historic gold medal for England.
Eboni was chosen for England's 12-player squad for the 2019 Netball World Cup. She announced her retirement from netball after the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Personal Life
Eboni Usoro-Brown became a mother in August 2020. She gave birth to her daughter, Savannah.
