History of Economy
Economy Township was first created in 1827. It got its name from a special village built nearby by a group called the Harmony Society. This village was called Economy and was located along the Ohio River. Today, that old village is known as Old Economy Village.
Later, in 1957, people living in Economy Township wanted to become a borough. They did this to stop other towns from taking over their land. So, on January 1, 1958, Economy officially became a borough.

Neighboring Communities
Economy shares its borders with several other towns and townships. To the north, you'll find New Sewickley Township. To the west, it borders Harmony Township and Baden. Conway is to the northwest.
On the eastern side, Economy is next to parts of Allegheny County. These include Marshall Township to the east, Franklin Park to the southeast, and Bell Acres to the south.
