Edward Bighead is a funny character from the cartoon show Rocko's Modern Life. He is also in the comic books. Ed is a cane toad who acts like a human. He lives right next door to the main character, Rocko. Ed really doesn't like Rocko at all! In the TV show, Charlie Adler does his voice.

Who is Ed Bighead?

Ed Bighead works at a very big company called Conglom-O. He can be quite grumpy and bossy. He often has a bad temper. The only people he seems to be afraid of are his wife, Bev, and his boss, Mr. Dupette.

Ed especially dislikes Rocko and his friends, Heffer Wolfe and Filburt. He often yells at people he sees. He also grumbles to himself when things bother him. In one episode, he didn't seem to care much about keeping the environment clean. He even wished the sky was full of garbage!

In the TV show, Ed works for the Conglom-O Corporation. This is the biggest company in town. He has worked there for a very long time. But his boss, Mr. Dupette, has never given him a big promotion. Ed often gets stuck in middle-level jobs. These jobs can cause him a lot of stress. Sometimes he is a low-level worker. Other times, he is more like an executive. In one episode, his job was to check bottle caps. He even agreed to lose a golf game to get a promotion to put the caps on!

As the show went on, we learned more about Ed. Sometimes, he showed that he cared for Rocko and his friends. But most of the time, he was still grouchy. In the movie Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, he got along better with Rocko. They even worked together to help save their town, O-town.

In the comic books, Ed Bighead works for a similar company. It is run by a white elephant named Donald Frump.

Ed's Family and Friends

Ed is married to Bev Bighead. Bev is the only person who can make Ed go from mean to totally scared! They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in one episode. Bev is strong and stands up to Ed. This makes her a powerful person in his life. Other characters, like Rocko, often can't stop Ed from bothering them.

Ed doesn't have many friends. Many people don't like him, but he doesn't seem to mind.

He had a difficult relationship with his child, Ralph. Ralph became a cartoonist instead of working at Conglom-O like Ed. This made Ed pretend he didn't have a child. Later, they made up. Rocko and Filburt helped them talk for Ed and Bev's anniversary. They both admitted they still cared for each other. In Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, Ralph changed their name to Rachel. At first, Ed wasn't happy, but he later accepted Rachel.

Ed Bighead's Adventures

Ed often acts like a bully or an enemy in the show.

In episodes where he was a main character, he:

• Broke Rocko's special baseball.
• Tried to get Rocko's house taken away.
• Spread rumors to stop people from going to Rocko's Christmas Party.
• Didn't give his wife Bev the attention she deserved.
• Tried to stop Rocko from recycling.
• Made a beach parking lot that was actually Rocko's driveway.
• Bothered Rocko while sleepwalking as a pirate. This was because of a bad memory from his childhood.
• Tried to ruin Rocko and Heffer's winter vacation.
• Ran against Rocko to be the town dog catcher. He spread bad rumors about Rocko. Ed won, but it wasn't a great win. Rocko's ideas were still liked, and Ed's job was mostly picking up dog poop.

Even though Ed often has bad luck, sometimes things go well for him:

• Magic Meatball: He got a magic meatball as a joke gift. He used it to move up the company ladder. He even got an office with a view of the whole Earth!
• Sailing the Seven Zzzz's: After bothering Rocko, Heffer, and Filburt, Ed was shown sleeping peacefully. He had a big smile and his childhood memory no longer bothered him.
• Closet Clown: Ed told Bev and others his secret about being a clown. Everyone accepted him! But they were less accepting when Rocko said he liked rainbows.
• Teed Off: Ed was offered a promotion if he let his boss, Mr. Dupette, win at golf. Ed knew the game was set up for his boss to win. Heffer, who worked at the golf course, found out and helped Ed. Ed didn't get the promotion, but he won the game!

In the comic books, Ed also:

• Kicked Rocko and Heffer out of company parties many times. Even though everyone else liked them!
• "Trained" his dog, Earl, to attack Rocko. This happened when Rocko wanted to enjoy a swimming pool in his yard.
