Edward Dunlop: A Top Racehorse Trainer
Early Life and Training
Edward Dunlop grew up around horses. His father, John Dunlop, was also a very successful horse trainer in Britain. Edward went to schools like Sunningdale School and Eton College.
He started his career by working on farms where horses are bred, in places like Ireland and Kentucky in the United States. After that, he went to Sydney, Australia, to finish a special course about horses at the National Stud.
Building a Successful Stable
When Edward came back to Britain, he worked for three years as an assistant to another famous trainer, Nicky Henderson. Then, he joined Alex Scott at his stables in Newmarket.
Sadly, Alex Scott passed away in 1994. Edward Dunlop then took over the business. He renamed it Gainsborough Stables. His new stable had its very first winning horse on October 19, 1994. Since then, his horses have raced all over the world. They have competed in places like Istanbul, Dubai, Milan, Ireland, and the United States.
In 2003 alone, his stable had 50 winners! Many important horse owners, like Edward Stanley, 19th Earl of Derby, have trusted Edward Dunlop to train their horses. One of his most famous horses was Ouija Board. This horse won 47% of its races and earned over £2 million!
Edward Dunlop got married in 1996 and has three daughters.
