Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon (born March 28, 1952, died November 1, 2025) was an important politician from Mauritius. He served as the Vice-President of his country from 2019 to 2024. This role is like a helper to the President, stepping in when needed.

Mr. Boissézon was a member of different political parties during his career. He was first part of the Mauritian Militant Movement, then joined the Muvman Liberater party in 2014. He was elected to the National Assembly, which is like the country's parliament, twice: first from 1995 to 2000, and again from 2014 to 2019. He also held a government job as the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms from 2017 to 2019.

Early Life and Education

Eddy Boissézon was born on March 28, 1952. He went to high school at Saint Joseph's College in Curepipe. After finishing his studies, he returned to the same school to teach accounting.

Later, Mr. Boissézon worked at a bank called Barclays. He also held important roles in other companies, like managing purchases and supplies for Scott & Co. Ltd., and being an executive director at ATICS & Co. Ltd. These jobs helped him gain experience in business and management.

A Career in Public Service

Mr. Boissézon began his journey in public service as a local council member in Vacoas-Phoenix in 1991. He also served as the Deputy Mayor for that town from 1991 to 1993.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

His first time running for the National Assembly, which is the main law-making body of Mauritius, was in 1995. He represented the area of Mahébourg and Plaine Magnien as part of the Mauritian Militant Movement party. He won this election. As a Member of Parliament (MP), he represented Mauritius at international meetings, like the ACP–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, in 1996 and 1997.

Changing Political Parties

In 2014, Eddy Boissézon decided to leave the Mauritian Militant Movement. He joined a new political party called Muvman Liberater and was chosen as its secretary-general.

He ran for election again in December 2014. His new party formed a team with other parties, known as the Alliance Lepep. Mr. Boissézon won his seat in the National Assembly for the area of La Cavèrne and Phoenix.

Serving as a Minister and Vice-President

After this victory, he became a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the government led by Anerood Jugnauth. In January 2017, he received his first role as a Minister. He became the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms under Pravind Jugnauth's government. He held this position until November 2019.

He tried to be re-elected to the National Assembly in 2019 but did not win his seat. However, on December 2, 2019, Mr. Boissézon was chosen to become the Vice-President of Mauritius. He was elected without anyone running against him, at the same time as Prithvirajsing Roopun became the President of the Republic. He served as Vice-President until December 2024.

Family and Hobbies

Eddy Boissézon was married to Connie Boissézon, and they had three children together. Outside of his political work, he loved sports. He was a big fan and player of football, volleyball, and track and field events.

After a long illness, Eddy Boissézon passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 73.

Special Recognition

Mr. Boissézon received a very special honor in 2019. He was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. This is one of the highest awards given in Mauritius to people who have done great things for their country.
