History of Eden
The first building in this area was a log cabin. It was built in 1857 for two summer herdsmen, Erastus Bingham and Joseph Hardy. A few years later, in 1859, a community officially started. Fifteen families moved into the area through the North Ogden Canyon and Pass.
The new settlers hired a government surveyor named Washington Jenkins to map out their town. Jenkins was very impressed by the area's beauty. He said it was one of the most beautiful places he had ever surveyed. Because of its beauty, he suggested naming the town "Eden," like the biblical garden. Before this, the area was temporarily called North Fork Town.
