Music Journey
Edie Brickell has had an exciting career in music, working with different bands and as a solo artist.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians
In 1985, Edie was invited to sing with a local folk rock band called New Bohemians. She quickly became their lead singer. When the band signed a record deal, their name was changed to Edie Brickell & New Bohemians.
Their first album, Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, came out in 1988. It was a big hit and included their popular song "What I Am". The band's next album, Ghost of a Dog, was released in 1990. They wanted this album to show more of their unique style, moving away from the pop sound of their first record. Edie was known for being able to make up lyrics on the spot during performances.
After Ghost of a Dog, the band played shows now and then. They released another album, Stranger Things, in 2006. In 2018, they announced their album Rocket and went on a tour in the United States. Their fifth studio album, Hunter and the Dog Star, was released in 2021.
Solo Music and Film Work
Edie Brickell also had a role as a folk singer in the 1989 movie Born on the Fourth of July. Her version of Bob Dylan's song "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" was featured in the movie. She also sang a cover of Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" for the 1990 film Flashback.
As a solo artist, Edie released albums like Picture Perfect Morning in 1994 and Volcano in 2003. The music video for her song "Good Times" was even included on a special CD-ROM for Microsoft's Windows 95.
The Gaddabouts
In 2010, Edie Brickell helped start a new band called The Gaddabouts. The band included famous musicians like Steve Gadd on drums and Pino Palladino on bass.
