Edmonia Henderson (born around 1898 or 1900 – died 1947) was an American classic female blues singer. She was known for her powerful voice. Edmonia recorded many songs in the mid-1920s. Later in her life, she became a religious leader called an evangelist.
Edmonia Henderson sang with famous musicians. Some of these included Jelly Roll Morton, Tommy Ladnier, and Johnny Dodds.

Edmonia Henderson's Musical Journey
Edmonia Henderson's exact birthplace is a bit of a mystery. Some records say she was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, which is now part of Louisville, Kentucky. Other researchers believe she was born in Tennessee. Either way, she became a talented singer.
Performing on Stage
Edmonia Henderson performed in vaudeville shows. Vaudeville was a popular type of entertainment. It featured many different acts like singers, dancers, and comedians. Edmonia performed by herself and with a group called Joe Clark's Revue. She traveled to cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Nashville to perform. In 1925, she was part of another vaudeville show called Radio Girls.
Recording Her Music
Edmonia Henderson made her first recording in 1924. She recorded at least 14 songs during her career. One of her most famous recordings was "Dead Man Blues" in 1926. She sang this song with Jelly Roll Morton, who played the piano. He also wrote the song.
Her music was even released in other countries. In 1927, a record of hers came out in the United Kingdom. It was part of a special series of blues records.
Later Life and Legacy
By 1928, Edmonia Henderson started teaching music. She also gave gospel concerts in Louisville, Kentucky. Gospel music is a type of religious music. In 1932, she got married and became known as the Reverend Edmonia Buckner.
Her songs are still enjoyed today. They have been included on many compilation albums. These are albums that collect songs from different artists. One example is The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917–1927, Volume 1.
Edmonia Henderson is not related to other famous musicians named Henderson. This includes Fletcher Henderson, Horace Henderson, Katherine Henderson, or Rosa Henderson.
