Edneyville is a small place in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city, but the government counts its population for statistics. In 2020, about 2,395 people lived there.
Edneyville got its name from Samuel Edney. He was a reverend and became the postmaster in 1828. Samuel and his brother Asa were the first people to settle in this area. They had many children, and their families continued to live nearby. This is how the area became known as Edneyville.
Since 1998, Edneyville has been home to the North Carolina Justice Academy. This academy is part of the North Carolina Department of Justice. It trains people who work in law enforcement and justice. The academy is located on the land where the old Edneyville High School used to be.

Geography of Edneyville
Edneyville is located in the northeastern part of Henderson County. It sits at an elevation of about 2,246 feet (685 meters) above sea level. A special line called the Eastern Continental Divide runs right through the middle of Edneyville.
Understanding the Continental Divide
The Eastern Continental Divide is like an invisible line on the land. It separates where rainwater flows.
- On the eastern side of Edneyville, water flows into Reedypatch Creek. This creek eventually leads to the Broad River, then the Congaree and Santee River systems, and finally reaches the Atlantic Ocean.
- On the western side of Edneyville, water flows into Clear Creek. This creek connects to Mud Creek, then the French Broad River, the Tennessee River, and finally the mighty Mississippi River. From there, the water travels all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. It's pretty cool how water from the same community can end up in two different major bodies of water!
