Eduardo Madina Muñoz, born on January 11, 1976, is a Spanish politician. He was a key member of the Socialist Party and served as the Secretary General of their group in the Spanish Parliament from April 2009 to September 2014.

About Eduardo Madina
Eduardo Madina is married and has one child. He comes from a family with a history in the Socialist Party from the Basque Country region of Spain. His grandfather worked as a miner. When he was 17, Eduardo joined the Socialist Youth of Euskadi, which is the youth branch of the Socialist Party in the Basque Country.
He studied Contemporary History at the University of Deusto and also earned a master's degree in European Integration from the University of the Basque Country. He has worked as an expert in the European Parliament and has taught about international relations and how Europe works at several Spanish universities. Today, he is a professor of contemporary history at Carlos III University in Madrid. Before his political career, he also hosted a music show on Radio 3.
In 2012, the World Economic Forum in Davos recognized him as one of the most outstanding young leaders in the world through their Young Global Leaders (YGL) program.
A Difficult Time: The Attack
On February 19, 2002, Eduardo Madina was driving to work in Sestao when he was attacked. A bomb, placed under his car by a group called ETA, caused him very serious injuries, including the loss of part of his left leg. Because of these injuries, he had to stop playing professional volleyball for his team, UPV Bizkaia.
Two years later, he received the Constitutional Merit Medal, an award given to victims of terrorism. The people responsible for the attack were later found guilty and sentenced to prison.
Eduardo Madina as a Member of Parliament
Eduardo Madina became a member of the Spanish Parliament in 2004, representing the Biscay region. Before this, he was a leader in the Socialist Youth of Euskadi from 2002 to 2005. He was also a member of the main leadership committee of the PSOE from 2008 to 2014.
During his time in parliament, he appeared in a documentary film called The Basque Ball: Skin Against Stone. He always believed that talking was the best way to end violence. In the 2008 general election, he was the top candidate for the Biscay province and was re-elected. In April 2009, he was chosen to be the Secretary General of the Socialist group in Parliament, a very important role.
Running for Party Leader
After the Socialist Party faced a defeat in the 2014 European Parliament elections, the party's leader, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, stepped down. This led to a special election to choose a new leader. Eduardo Madina was one of the first to suggest that all party members should get to vote directly for their new leader. He announced his own candidacy on June 14, 2014.
His campaign focused on fighting against corruption and making sure the party supported social programs again. The election was held on July 13, 2014. Eduardo Madina came in second place with 36% of the votes. Pedro Sánchez won with 48%, and José Antonio Perez Tapias received 15%. After the election, Eduardo Madina decided not to join the new leadership team and returned to his teaching job at the university.
