Eduardo Saavedra y Moragas (born February 27, 1829, in Tarragona, died March 12, 1912, in Madrid) was a very talented Spanish man. He was an engineer, an architect, an archaeologist, and an Arabist. This means he studied the Arabic language and culture. He was also a member of several important Spanish academies, like the Real Academia de la Historia and the Real Academia Española. He even helped start the Royal Geographical Society.

Eduardo Saavedra was a brilliant person who worked in many different fields. He used his skills to design important structures and uncover ancient secrets.
Designing the Chipiona Lighthouse
In 1857, Eduardo Saavedra designed the Chipiona Lighthouse. This lighthouse is located in Spain and is the tallest one in the country. It helps guide ships safely along the coast.
Uncovering Ancient Roman Sites
Eduardo Saavedra was also very interested in history and old civilizations. In 1860, he made an exciting discovery. He found the ruins of Numantia in the province of Soria. Numantia was an ancient city known for its brave resistance against the Romans.
He became the leader of the team that dug up these important archaeological sites. While working on a road project, he also found a Roman road. This ancient road connected the Roman towns of Uxama Argaela and Augustóbriga.
Studying Arabic Culture
Besides his work in engineering and archaeology, Eduardo Saavedra was an expert in Arabic studies. He was known as an "Arabist" because he deeply studied the Arabic language, history, and culture. His work helped people understand more about the influence of Arab culture in Spain.
