Edward Richard Lambton, born on October 19, 1961, is also known as Ned Lambton. He is a British peer, which means he is a member of the British nobility. He is also a musician and has played guitar in a country band called Pearl, TN.

About Ned Lambton

Ned Lambton was born in 1961 in London, England. He was the youngest child and only son of Belinda Blew-Jones and Antony, Viscount Lambton. His father was the eldest son of John Lambton, 5th Earl of Durham.

His Birth and Celebrations

Ned was born after his parents had five daughters. To celebrate his birth as the heir to his family's estates and titles, a large bonfire was lit. This bonfire was placed at the top of Penshaw Hill, which used to be part of the Lambton Estate.

On April 23, 1962, Ned was baptized by Maurice Harland, who was the Bishop of Durham. His baptism took place in the church of St Barnabas, Burnmoor. As part of the celebrations, an ox was roasted for everyone to enjoy.

His Godparents and Family

Ned Lambton has some famous godparents. They included former Prime Minister Anthony Eden, Prince Stanisław Albrecht Radziwiłł, journalist Joseph Alsop, and socialite Babe Paley. His eldest sister is Lady Lucinda Lambton, who is a well-known broadcaster.

His maternal grandparents were Douglas Holden Blew-Jones and Violet Hilda Margaret Birkin. Violet's sister was Freda Dudley Ward. She was a close friend of Edward, Prince of Wales, before he met Thelma Furness and later Wallis Simpson.

Becoming the Earl of Durham

When Ned's grandfather passed away on February 4, 1970, his father became the 6th Earl of Durham. However, his father decided to give up his noble titles on February 23 of the same year. For a short time, Ned was known by the title Viscount Lambton. After his father gave up his titles, Ned was called Lord Durham. This helped avoid confusion with his father, who continued to use the name Lord Lambton.

In 1997, Ned Lambton ran for election in the area of Berwick-upon-Tweed. He represented the Referendum Party and received 3.4% of the votes.

Ned became the 7th Earl of Durham in 2006, after his father passed away. He has been involved in family discussions about property with some of his sisters. Ned owns Villa Cetinale, a beautiful 17th-century villa in Tuscany, Italy. He inherited this villa from his father.

His Marriages and Children

Ned Lambton has been married three times. He has also divorced twice.

First Marriage

In 1983, he married Christabel Mary McEwen. She is the daughter of Rory McEwen and Romana von Hofmannsthal. Ned and Christabel had one son together:

  • Frederick Lambton, Viscount Lambton (born February 23, 1985).

Ned and Christabel divorced in 1995. Christabel later married the musician Jools Holland.

Second Marriage

On October 19, 1995, Ned married Catherine FitzGerald. She is an Anglo-Irish aristocrat and the daughter of Desmond FitzGerald, 29th Knight of Glin. Ned and Catherine did not have any children together, and they divorced in 2002. Catherine is now married to the actor Dominic West.

Ned also has a daughter named Molly, who was born in 2000, from another relationship.

Third Marriage
