Edwards is a small place in Peoria County, Illinois, that doesn't have its own city government. These kinds of places are called unincorporated communities. It's located northwest of the bigger city of Peoria.
Even though Edwards is small, it has its own post office with a special code, ZIP Code 61528. The post office isn't in the very original spot anymore. It moved to Dubois Road, a bit north of where Interstate 74 is.
A Look Back: The History of Edwards
Edwards started a long time ago, in 1857, as a busy train stop. Because of the train, it used to be called Edwards Station. This train station was part of a big railroad system that connected different towns.
The Railroad's Role
The railroad that came through Edwards was first known as the Peoria, Oquawka and Burlington Railroad. It was finished in 1857, and that's when the station opened. Later, this railroad became part of the larger Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Trains were super important back then for moving people and goods!
Early Settlers
Before the trains arrived, people were already living in the area. One of the first settlers was a person named Isaac Jones. He lived there until he passed away in 1840.
