Edwin Baker's Football Journey
Edwin Baker had an interesting journey in professional football. He played for several teams in the NFL and also in the CFL.
Starting with the Chargers
The San Diego Chargers chose Edwin Baker in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL draft. This meant he was one of the last players picked that year. He joined the team in 2012. However, the Chargers released him on August 25, 2013.
Time with the Broncos and Texans
After leaving the Chargers, Baker joined the Denver Broncos' practice squad on September 2, 2013. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. They can be called up if needed. He was with the Broncos for a few months.
Then, on November 20, 2013, Baker moved to the practice squad of the Houston Texans. He stayed with the Texans for a short time before being released on December 10, 2013.
Playing for the Cleveland Browns
On December 10, 2013, the same day he left the Texans, the Cleveland Browns signed Edwin Baker to their main team. This was a big step for him.
He made his first game appearance for the Browns on December 15, 2013. In that game against the Chicago Bears, Baker scored his first touchdown in the NFL. Even though he scored, the Browns lost the game 38–31.
Baker played only three games for Cleveland. Despite that, he finished third on the team in rushing yards. He also tied for the team lead with two rushing touchdowns. The Browns released him on August 25, 2014.
With the New Orleans Saints
On September 16, 2014, Baker signed with the New Orleans Saints' practice squad. He was later moved to the active roster on October 25, 2014. This happened because two other running backs, Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson, were injured. Baker was released by the Saints on September 5, 2015.
Final Stop: Toronto Argonauts
Edwin Baker then decided to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He signed with the Toronto Argonauts on January 19, 2016. However, his time with the Argonauts was also short. He was released by the team on June 19, 2016.
