Edwin Burr Babbitt (born July 26, 1862 – died December 9, 1939) was an important major general in the United States Army. He served his country for many years, including during World War I.

Edwin Burr Babbitt was born in New York City on July 26, 1862. His father, Lawrence Sprague, was also a U.S. Army Colonel. His mother was Fannie Babbitt.

Edwin Babbitt passed away on December 9, 1939. He died in Santa Barbara, California. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, a special place where many military heroes are laid to rest.

His Military Career

Edwin Babbitt studied at the United States Military Academy, often called West Point. He graduated in 1884. After graduating, he became a second lieutenant in the Army.

He played a key role during World War I. He commanded a brigade, which is a large group of soldiers, in important battles. These included the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and the Battle of Saint-Mihiel.

For his excellent service in World War I, Edwin Babbitt received several awards. One of the highest was the Army Distinguished Service Medal. This award is given for truly outstanding and noticeable service. He also received awards from other countries. These included the Officer, Legion d'Honour from France, the Comendator, Order of the Sun of Peru from Peru, and the Order of Abdon Calderón, First Class, from Ecuador.

General Babbitt retired from the Army in 1924.
