Edwin Thompson is an American baseball coach and a former outfielder. He is currently the head baseball coach for the Georgetown Hoyas. He played college baseball at Howard, Maryland, and Webber International. Later, he became the head coach for the Bates Bobcats (2009–2010) and Eastern Kentucky Colonels (2016–2020).
Playing Baseball
Edwin Thompson went to Jay High School in Jay, Maine. After high school, he played college baseball at Howard University. He was part of the Howard Bison baseball team. After two seasons, he moved to the University of Maryland to play for a year. He then transferred again to play at Webber International University. He played as an outfielder during his time as a player.
Coaching Teams
Edwin Thompson started his coaching journey in 2008. He became the head coach for the Bates Bobcats baseball team. He led them to successful seasons in 2009 and 2010. After Bates, Thompson became an assistant coach for the Duke Blue Devils baseball team. He then worked as a top assistant for the Georgia State Panthers baseball program.
In July 2015, Thompson was named the head coach of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels baseball team. He coached there until September 2020. Then, he accepted a new role as head coach at Georgetown University. At Georgetown, he has continued to lead his teams. In 2022, he was named the Big East Coach of the Year.
