Effingham's History
Effingham got its first post office in 1868. This was an important step for the community. The city really started to grow when the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad built its tracks nearby.
By the 1880s, Effingham had become a busy village. The city was named after Effingham H. Nichols. He was an early supporter of the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad.
