Growing Up and Family Background
Ego Nwodim was born on March 10, 1988. She is Nigerian American and comes from the Igbo heritage. Her cousin, Eberechi Eze, is a professional English footballer. He plays for the Premier League club Crystal Palace and also for the England national football team.
Education and Comedy Training
In 2006, Ego graduated from Eastern Technical High School in Essex, Baltimore County, Maryland. She then went on to earn a biology degree from the University of Southern California. After college, she decided to follow her passion for comedy. She began taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB) in Los Angeles. This is a famous place where many comedians learn and perform.

Starting Out in Comedy
Ego Nwodim was a regular performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She even had her own one-woman show there called Great Black Women...and Then There's Me. In 2016, she was recognized as one of the "New Faces" at the Just for Laughs festival, which is a big event for comedians. That same year, she also performed at the CBS Diversity Showcase.
TV Roles and Guest Appearances
Before joining Saturday Night Live, Ego had supporting roles in several TV shows. These included Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders in 2017, 2 Broke Girls, and Living Biblically. She also appeared in a funny sketch for Funny or Die in 2017, where she pretended to be Maya Angelou and playfully made fun of different celebrities and companies. Ego has also been a guest on popular podcasts like Comedy Bang! Bang! and Spontaneanation.
Joining Saturday Night Live
On September 21, 2018, it was announced that Ego Nwodim would be joining the cast of Saturday Night Live as a featured player. This is a huge step for comedians. On September 8, 2020, she was promoted to a repertory player, which means she became a main cast member on the show.
In April 2025, there was a funny moment on the "Weekend Update" segment of Saturday Night Live. Ego's character, "Ms. Eggy," said a word that caused the FCC to reportedly fine the show. Later, on May 17, "Weekend Update" anchor Colin Jost jokingly introduced Ego by saying, "You know her, you love her [and] you got her fined by the FCC."
Ego Nwodim's Personal Life
Ego Nwodim is a big supporter of her cousin, Eberechi Eze, who plays football for Crystal Palace and the England national football team. In 2023, she wore a Crystal Palace shirt with Eze's name on it during an episode of Saturday Night Live. She wore it again on May 17, 2025, to celebrate Crystal Palace's victory in the 2025 FA Cup final.
