Ego Nwodim (born March 10, 1988) is an American actress and comedian. She is best known for being a cast member on the TV show Saturday Night Live (often called SNL). She joined the show in 2018 for its 44th season. Saturday Night Live is a popular sketch comedy series where actors perform short, funny scenes.
About Ego Nwodim
Ego Nwodim was born on March 10, 1988. Her family comes from Nigeria. She finished high school in Essex, Maryland, in 2006. Later, she went to the University of Southern California and earned a degree in biology.
After college, Ego decided she wanted to be a comedian. She started taking classes at a famous comedy school called the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB) in Los Angeles. Before joining SNL, Ego was a regular performer at UCB. She even had her own comedy show there called Great Black Women...and Then There's Me.
Her Career in Comedy and TV
In 2016, Ego Nwodim was recognized as one of the "New Faces" at the Just for Laughs festival. This festival is a big event where new comedy talents are discovered. That same year, she also performed at the CBS Diversity Showcase, which helps new actors get noticed.
Ego had small roles in several TV shows. These included Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, 2 Broke Girls, and Living Biblically. She also did a funny online video for Funny or Die in 2017. In the video, she pretended to be famous poet Maya Angelou and jokingly made fun of different celebrities and companies. She has also appeared as a guest on comedy podcasts like Comedy Bang! Bang!.
On September 21, 2018, it was announced that Ego Nwodim would join the cast of Saturday Night Live. She started as a "featured player," which means she was a new member of the cast. Later, on September 8, 2020, she was promoted to a "repertory player." This means she became a main, regular cast member on the show.
A fun fact about Ego is that she is a cousin of English football player Eberechi Eze. He plays for the Premier League club Crystal Palace and the England national football team. Ego even wore a Crystal Palace shirt with Eze's name on it during an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2023.
