Eiji Hanayama's Football Journey
Eiji Hanayama was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, on August 21, 1977. After finishing high school, he began his professional football career.
Starting His Career: Early Teams
Joining Urawa Reds
In 1996, Eiji joined Urawa Reds. This team played in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. He played as a defensive midfielder. However, he did not play in any official matches during 1996 and 1997.
Moving to Gamba Osaka
In 1998, Eiji moved to another J1 League club, Gamba Osaka. He played his first professional match on April 25. This game was against Kyoto Purple Sanga. However, this was the only match he played for Gamba Osaka.
New Role: Playing for Vegalta Sendai
In 1999, Eiji joined Vegalta Sendai. This team had just moved up to the J2 League. His coach, Takekazu Suzuki, changed Eiji's playing position. Eiji started playing as a center back. A center back is a defensive player who helps protect the goal.
He became a regular player for Vegalta Sendai. He often played on the right or left side of a three-player defense. The team had a difficult time, losing 10 games in a row. Coach Suzuki left the team in July. Hidehiko Shimizu became the new coach in August. The new coach changed the team's defense system. This meant Eiji did not play as much. He left the club at the end of the 1999 season.
Back Home: Playing for Tochigi SC
After a break from professional football, Eiji joined his local team, Tochigi SC, in 2003. This team played in the Japan Football League. He played in some matches during 2003. However, he did not play in any more games from 2004 onwards. Eiji Hanayama stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2005 season.
